My watercolors depict images from the real world and create a format, which can be defined, as both abstract and representational. I look for the connection between the real world and the spatial relationships of the imagery I paint. I begin with images that are found, constructed or imagined and lift them out of the realm of the ordinary. They are composed of multiple layers of space, evoking a sense of collision on a single plane allowing me to convey a new perspective. Through the use of architectural elements, grids, tracks of perforated lines and layers of paint combined with narrative elements, I work to create a new dimension. I explore space through the use of common imagery creating an abstract world without being either trivial or obvious. The challenge is to make art that includes the viewer’s perspective, as well as, my own. Ultimately Color and Drawing remain my passion. |
