Brook Overline

Brook Overline is a native Philadelphia painter.  Her watercolors make use of toys and other objects of interest to describe her narrative landscapes.  Born in West Philadelphia and raised during the height of the sixties, Brook received a BFA in 1970 from Moore College of art.  She attended the Tyler School of Art Graduate program for sculpture and was awarded an assistantship at the University of Colorado.

Prior to the 80’s, Brook’s work was mostly figurative and reflected the culture of the times.  By the early 80’s her work had evolved into paintings of found and imagined objects that reflected her personal experiences.  Using aerial perspectives, she creates a sense of collision in her landscapes.

In 1984, Brook began exhibiting her work at the Charles More Gallery in Philadelphia, PA.  "Pantograph," a painting on paper was purchased for the More’s private collection.  A solo show at Princeton University followed.  Brook Overline’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States, London and Israel.

Brook includes the works of Red Grooms, Wayne Thiebaud and Matthew Ritchie as strong influences and has long admired the watercolors of Charles Demuth.
